The underlying cause of a closeness-distance disturbance is the human being’s attachment issue within themselves. This inner dynamic is experienced in everyday relationships as a reflection or projection of the soul, so that the person has the opportunity to recognize the root cause. One part within the person longs to experience and feel closeness, while another part rejects that very closeness with equal intensity.
The cause of a closeness-distance disturbance is already established in the second developmental circuit, between the 4th/5th month of life and the completion of the 3rd year (see Phoenix Concepts). If, at this stage, the child receives too little physical contact and verbal engagement, the foundation needed to build and allow closeness is missing.
